  • Investigate the three simple rules for choosing a market.

Looking for markets that satisfy these three criteria will ensure you're building your simple report business on the right subject. The market needs to be:

    • accustomed to spending money
    • receptive to a wide variety of offers, and
    • you may have personal interest, experience or knowledge in the market (optional).

    Tips:

    • Choose an evergreen market
    • Choose a big and profitable market.
  • Select five markets from the more than 60 listed in the text.

Keep in mind the three simple rules and additional tips when choosing these markets.

Day Two: Evaluating Individual Markets

  • Download our Market Evaluation Forms (click here).

These forms will help you understand and clarify the market(s) you’ll want to focus on.

  • Complete the Forms and score the markets according to the criteria on the form.

Doing so will give you a clear idea of market(s) that can be receptive, profitable and interesting.

  • Narrow your choices down to the markets with the two highest scores.

This takes emotion out of the equation, and helps you identify where the profitable markets are.

  • Decide which of these markets has the most personal appeal for you.

This isn’t a pass/fail choice. It’s a starting place for you to begin focusing on where you’ll invest your time, energy and knowledge.

  • Select your ideal target market from between your three final choices.
  • Write your target market’s name on a Post-It note and place it somewhere you’ll see it often.

This helps you recognize what you should be looking for, while raising your awareness of interest in this market.
